Understanding Medicare: What You Need to Know

Original Medicare

The foundation of Medicare, covering hospital and medical services.
Original Medicare includes Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance). Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care. Part B covers certain doctors' services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.

Medicare Advantage

An all-in-one plan that often includes drug coverage and additional benefits.
Medicare Advantage Plans, also known as Part C, cover all the same services as Original Medicare (Parts A and B) and can offer additional benefits. These plans are provided by private companies and often include Part D for prescription drug coverage.

Medicare Supplement

Aka Medigap, helps cover out-of-pocket costs that Original Medicare doesn’t pay.
Also known as Medigap, these plans help fill the gaps in Original Medicare by covering expenses such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. Beneficiaries cannot enroll in both a Medicare Supplement Plan and a Medicare Advantage Plan simultaneously.
